Recap from the call:

John Plug discussed Fishers of Men event in Indy to gauge interest level in a training event there in 2011.

Chris Van Brocklin shared his experiences at REM training events, sharing the NMLB model as part of an ISI workshop and managing the 4200 Red Zone conference. Chris indicated that having a MIM Bookstore is not a money maker but is beneficial in that it attracts men so that you can make the contact. Chris has created a Master REM presentation and then cherry-picks the slides that will have maximum impact based on where and when and how he is doing the training event. He always interjects the 10-minute model overview on video by Brett Clemmer. Follow up for all his contacts in paramount. Distribution of the free EQMIM devo helps generate interest as well.

Dave Enslow discussed strategy for a men’s seminar at this church with church associate pastors and leaders co-sharing the presentations – sends a positive message to the men and helps keep things “interesting”. Dads that Make a Difference is timed to coincide with Father’s Day next month.

Al will explore setting up a Group Facebook account for MIM Field Network. It will be closed to ONLY field network men and MIM staffers. This will be used vs. current blog. Stay tuned. Some men on the call indicated that they do not have Facebook accounts but understood the ease/value of this communications strategy.

Al provided on update on new MIM 4.0 Website and how field network would be supported. See email request asking to validate the info that will be loaded onto the website. Each field trainer was asked to submit 1 or 2 sentences about themselves and/or their ministry along with their picture.

Al provided update on customized NMLB model cards. Need 15 to move forward – Al is following up on non respondents.

Foam boards with MIM creative/banners (remember the booth at the annual summit?) will be available upon request for your events - these are independent of what we use on the booth. They can be table top displays as long as you have an easel or stand for their display.

Discussion about self-paced training and how field trainers can use this in their community. DVD pre-purchase price is still available and deeply discounted for your consideration.

Marketing your Reaching Every Man Training Event

We've always been able to provide you with a list of area churches/contacts from our data base - pastors, leaders and churches that you could call and make aware of your upcoming REM training event. But we've never been able to provide you with their email address - our customers would expect us to keep that information safe and proprietary.

Man in the Mirror can now offer you the option of having us send out an email "blast" from our data base on your behalf. The email addresses would include all of those in our data base within a 90 mile radius of your REM event. Depending on the geographic location, the email blast may be a few hundred to a couple of thousand.

There is a $25 fee for this option (helps us recover our expense). If you're interested, please provide a minimum of 1 week's notice to Jamie Smith at (407) 472-2100.

Field Network Men at the Annual Summit

Hey Men! The Annual Summit is not that far away and I hope to see all of you there!

While the Summit begins with a "meet and greet" on Thursday, January 28th at 5:30, there will be a "special" meeting with field network men from 1 - 4PM.

We've been very busy here at Man in the Mirror making enhancements to the field program that we'll review, along with updated vision, mission and strategy for our ministry. We will also have some round table discussion on what's working, not working, etc.

This will be our only time to meet each other (there are 30+ field associates and trainers "on the network") eyeball-to-eyeball. Please pray that God will provide the resources needed so that most, if not all, can attend!

Training this Weekend

Please pray for our Essentials (No Man Left Behind) training in Detroit on Saturday and our field trainer, Randy Mason. There are nearly 60 pastors and leaders from both the suburbs and the inner city for this discipleship training. Charles Cooper from Man in the Mirror faculty will preside, so please pray for God's anointing on him, as well as safe travel.

Also pray for the No Man Left Behind 2 1/2 day training conference that begins tonight in Houston, TX. 40 pastors and leaders are registered to attend the training. Pray that God will provide fruit across the state of Texas as a result, and for Brett Clemmer on staff to be used as His vessel for this training conference.

2010 Annual Summit

In a few short months, Man in the Mirror will be hosting its Annual Summit here in Orlando. The Summit will begin on Thursday, January 28th at 5:30PM with a "meet and greet" followed by dinner, worship and some plenary sessions. Friday and Saturday will be a mix of worship, plenary sessions, workshops and networking. The Summit will conclude around lunchtime on Saturday, January 30th. Spouses and sons are encouraged to attend with you!

Man in the Mirror considers each of you part of its staff. Would you prayerfully consider attending? There will be a special working session on Thursday, January 28th prior to the "meet and greet" (from 1 - 4PM) just for current field network associates and trainers.

Meet Man in the Mirror Field Trainer: John Plug - Calumet City, IL.

John attends Faith Church in Dye, Indiana, the largest, fastest growing Reformed Church in the world. He is a project manager working as an independent contractor for a plant maintenance company and has two grown daughters who love the Lord.

John has always worked with men, but in the last six years he felt the need and calling to do more. His relationship with God deepened as he began to develop relationships with other leaders and became more involved with Man in the Mirror. Today, John assists several area church men's ministries; provides one to one mentoring; leads a men's small group and attends weekly prayer meetings and bible studies.

"Being a field network guy for Man in the Mirror has been such a blessing. It has opened many doors and allowed me into the lives of many pastors and leaders. I love brainstorming and being creative in how to reach more men," says John. He goes on to state how serious he is about reaching men - now more than ever.

"I am so unworthy of the least of His favor, and yet He blesses me over and over and over again. Now, I watch him work and by His strength I am made complete and whole every day. There is no turning back. The battle is on and we are winning. And He will get the glory and the praise and the honor forever and ever and ever. I like that a lot."

Indy Report & A New Best Practice

Hey Guys! A quick report on Indianapolis No Man Left Behind Conference.

John Plug and Jim Shields put together an amazing team. It was one of the smoothest events I've been to. We had 54 guys there from around the area and as far away as Iowa and Ohio. They were passionate about men's discipleship, that's for sure.

Ray Hilbert facilitated with an assist from me, and Jim and John got in on the action too. It was great for the guys to see some faces of local MIM leaders who are going to be available for the long haul!

Jim and John instituted what I believe is a 'Best Practice' as well. They are going to host a conference call for all attendees TODAY at noon, and then in 2 weeks they are having a follow-up meeting at the same church for all who attended the conference.

They'll be answering questions and taking comments, as well as introducing a longer-term follow-up process that they are piloting for us. We are developing a 6 month consulting 'curriculum' for them to use to work with church teams as they implement the NMLB model. The church will pay the consultant for this service, and the consultant will pay us for the curriculum (which costs less than they are getting paid, of course).

LTC Commission - August 2009 Update

The previous version(s) were a little vague because we all know that until we actually conduct the event, the tuition rate per seat will remain an unknown. This version provides you with the percentage based on actual “revenue” that will be awarded for your training conference. Please be sure to call or email if you have questions about the structure!

Church Deposit Option Update

Brothers:

As you discuss the possibility of bringing a No Man Left Behind training conference to your area, please begin offering the host church the following deposit option:

A minimum of 3 seats at the training conference for their leaders at our cost of $200 per seat. The host church may purchase as many of the seats for the leaders and men of their church at cost ($200) as they desire. This option replaces the previous options at $1500/7 seats or $2500/12 seats.

This change will allow smaller churches or churches that are operating at reduced budget levels the opportunity to host the training for the pastors and leaders in their community!

Dear Brothers in the Field (makes you sound like you’re monks or something, doesn’t it?):

Just before we left for the 4th of July holiday, we announced that some scholarship money had been made available for our upcoming No Man Left Behind training conferences. Based on the positive feedback I’ve received since then, we decided it best to further “simplify” the scholarship offer:

For every 3 paid registrants, get 1 seat free! Limit of one scholarship per church.

Men must call and register with Man in the Mirror directly to reserve the scholarship seat.

Each market will have a limited number of scholarships (five) available on a first come/first serve basis. The number of remaining scholarships will be posted on our website and updated a few times per week as needed.

If you have already offered a “free pastor with two paid registrants” from the announcement last Thursday, then please know that we’ll honor that through July 17th. After that date, the offer above will be the only available offer.

In the event that there are extenuating circumstances that require individual consideration, please be sure to let me know.

The Field Trainer that submits the most referrals that result in a MIM men’s event will win 2 registrations to the Annual Summit in January along with 2 nights lodging. This is up to a $500 value!!!!

A few details to know:

During the month of June, you can offer churches a 20% discount off the scheduling fee of a faculty led seminar or the purchase of a You Teach It event. (For example, a Success That Matters faculty led seminar that would normally require a $1500 scheduling fee would be reduced to $1200 and the purchase of a You Teach It would be reduced from $600 to $480).

A separate referral form is required for each referral. Download the form here.

A minimum result of 3 scheduled events is required to qualify. (For example, you may submit 20 referrals and 5 result in a scheduled event - you are qualified. However, if you submit 20 referrals and only 1 results in a scheduled event, you are not qualified) In the end, the person with the most referrals that result in a scheduled event WINS!!!

Hotel accommodations will be made by MIM.

If you’re relative new to the field network (Roy, Tom, Dan, Dave, Rich, Dana, Roger and Wayne), then again, welcome to the front line!

If you’re not new to the field network, this might be a nice “refresher” for you!

There is a conference call scheduled for Thursday, 4/23 at Noon EDT to review your field network “kit” and discuss “next step” plans, answer questions, etc. This call is long overdue for some of you, so my apologies for the delay. The amount of work needed to convert from “pilot” to “live” was considerably more than we anticipated….but we are just about there!

We’ve had some significant changes since the pilot in our strategy to bring No Man Left Behind training conferences to an area (relationship-based ministry approach that leverages an A-Team, a dinner event and other milestones), in our pricing for the training conference which affects commissions to field associates, in our host church deposit policy and also in how men can secure the best rate available with a deposit – the latter items were designed to address the pressing economic conditions we’re in. We’ve also made some changes to the Seminars program by allowing Field Trainers to “own” a seminar and leverage their investment by getting on the speaker’s circuit.

You may know by now that we are attempting to focus these 2 ½ day leadership training conferences in areas where God is currently moving. To better identify that, we are enlisting the help of “A” teams all over the country. One of the newest ways we’re sharing the “A” team vision is on a blog that you can also use as a tool in your area.

Today is the day that God is going to use you and me and the facilitators to change the course of history because today is the day that men will see clearly for may be the first time what their main responsiblity is and by His Strength just do it. Today is the day when the forces of Hell will be vanquished, because today we call upon the Only True God to enter our meeting places and banish the devil and all his demons. Today God will be in our midst, and we will humble ourselves before Him and let Him be our all in all. Today we will lay all else aside and listen to Him as He speaks to each of us and gives us our marching orders. NMLB Field Associate John Plug is working on his second 2009 Conference, scheduled tentatively for Summer 2009 in Indianapolis.

Under the new marketing strategy, he has assembled his Advocacy Team—or “A-Team”—and scheduled a pre-conference dinner for February 26th. At this dinner, pastors and men’s leaders will spend time discussing discipleship in their community. Ministry Consultant Greg Wilkinson sent out hundreds of email dinner invites last week and 1200 postcard invites will drop next week.

Please pray for God’s hand on John’s efforts and for each of the A-Team members to have favor with the men they speak with – especially for Jim Shields, who is handling much of the promotion in the Indy area. Pray for both their team and the MIM team to have wisdom and walk through whatever doors God opens.

God is working! Brothers who elected to participate in the various field pilots are already trained, equipped and moving forward with scheduling No Man Left Behind (NMLB) conferences, Seminars and Reaching Every Man events:

No Man Left Behind conferences
Bob Carvalho in El Paso, TX and John Plug ins greater Chicago both havea NMLB conference scheduled for March 26-28, 2009. NMLB conferences in Washington, D.C., Michigan and Tampa are on track to bring conferences to these markets by first quarter of 2009!

Recruiting field associates for 2009 conferences is scheduled to begin this quarter.

Seminars
“You Teach It” seminar strategy was introduced to the field associates in this pilot in mid-October which should further their ability to bring Kingdom knowledge to the men of their communities.

Ike Newingham in Newport News/Virginia Beach, VA has a regional seminar event on the calendar for March 6-7th, 2009 and is expecting hundreds of men from the mid-Atlantic region. John Plug attended NMLB training in October and is working with numerous churches in the Chicago area to share the discipleship model and schedule a region-wide multi-church men’s event. Other field associates in this pilot are also busy scheduling seminars for their communities.

Reaching Every Man Events
Field Associates in this pilot received updated power point presentations, speaker notes and student workbooks. Nearly all of the field associates have already scheduled REM events or have planned their REM events in November, December and January, 2009. David Dusek revealed that he has doubled attendance by hosting his events on a week night from 5:30 – 9:30PM. Hallelujah!

Development of the Ministry Consultant position continues and details on this component of the field network will be revealed at the Annual Summit on January 22 – 24, 2009.

4th Pilot: You Teach It Men’s Events
(Seminars Field Associates Only)

What is a You Teach It (YTI) event?
A YTI event is basically a seminar in a box. The purchaser would receive all the same materials that a Faculty Led event would, less the speaker. (Planning Manual, NMLB book, bulletin inserts, mini-brochures, posters, promo CD, seminar materials for 25 men) In place of the speaker, they receive all sessions on DVD, transcripts of the event, speaker notes & a power point presentation.

Who would teach the event?
This is up to the host church. They could choose to hire you to teach it. In such a case, you would negotiate your own honorarium. They could choose to have the pastor present the material. Or what most churches do is have a different man, typically from the church whom they feel is qualified to speak, each take one session. This provides variety, transparency and an opportunity for the men of the church to really get to know one another.

How much is it?
The YTI event is $600 + $20 shipping. (Please see the order form for all that is included) This includes materials for 25 men and it is $12 per man for over 25 men.

What is the Field Associate’s Role & Compensation?
The Field Associate would find the host church, take the order and return it to MIM with the $620, provide support to the host church and market the event to the local area churches. The compensation would be $2 per man in attendance. Since the event comes with materials for 25 men, $50 is the minimum you would receive. If the event had 100 men in attendance, you would receive $200.

Just like you, these guys have busy schedules so getting them to slow down enough to listen can be difficult. NMLB Field Associates,

As you are securing your conference venue and thinking about related details, I wanted to share a couple of tips with you based on past experience.

First, if you are thinking about your own church for the venue, I strongly discourage you from serving as Event Coordinator (see Host Church Team Manual in your appendix). As the Field Associate, you want to focus strictly on promoting this conference and reaching as many leaders as possible. Handling the logistics of the actual conference and overseeing the Host Church Team will be an overwhelming distraction from your role as Field Associate.

Instead, choose someone to be your Event Coordinator that is easy to get in touch with, dependable, passionate about ministry to men, and detail-oriented. Once you provide me with his contact information, I will take it from there and begin coordinating the conference details with that team, freeing you up to focus on your priorities.

Second, if you are still searching for a venue, or if you are transitioning into your marketing phase, I want to stress the importance of going outside of your church and denomination. The more denominations represented at the conference, the better. We must all be united in one common purpose of training leaders to reach as many men as possible with the Gospel. Remaining inside denomination lines with your marketing will affect the quality of the event, your overall numbers and the spiritual ramifications in your community.

We had a great call this Friday with the NMLBC pilot guys. We opened up in prayer and each guy shared their heart and passion for why they're involved. We went through some general administrative stuff then talked about the initial shipment they recieved from MIM. We then discussed some marketing lists and what that looks like.

Why is Man in the Mirror Doing All of This?

The Need/Problem
There is raging all around us a titanic battle between the forces of good and evil for men’s souls. This battle is raging out of control in neighborhoods across America. While this may seem overstated, it makes perfect sense when we think about the casualties taking place on our own streets, where we work, even our churches. Men leave, women weep, a little 12 year old girl prays, “God, why is my daddy always so angry?” This is a real battle. These are real men with real families.

69,000,000 men in America (of 113,00,000) make no profession of faith in Christ. Many of the men who do profess faith have never been discipled. The result is that they are Christian in spirit, but secular in practice. The results have been devastating (you’ve heard us quote the stats many times).

What is the solution? The final marching orders from Jesus are, “Go and make disciples” (Matthew 28:18-20). There is one, and only one, way any man can win the battle for his soul. He must become a disciple of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Most of America’s 350,000 churches are not equipped with the vision, training, and resources to effectively disciple their men (which is ironically their main mission). This is the need. The need should define the size of our organization.

Just to Review

Why we exist (our vision) is to engage every man in America with a credible offer of Christ and the resources to grow.
What we do (our mission) is equipping pastors and leaders to more effectively disciple men.
How we do it (our strategy) is to provide pastors and leaders with training (NMLB) and resources (e.g., Books for $1, Webcast, Seminars) to disciple every man in their church.
What we want to accomplish (our BHAG) is to equip 100,000 pastors and leaders to disciple 10,000,000 new men.

The Opportunity
We see an opportunity to leverage the work of passionate leaders to more effectively meet this need. We believe a closer relationship with leaders in the field can help us be better stewards of the opportunities that God has given.

To summarize some of what we've been saying:

Man in the Mirror has built a broad array of programs, but without fully exploiting any of them.
We’ve developed or have access to everything a church needs to effectively disciple its men.
Meanwhile, each of our programs is operating at a fraction of its potential.
There are many leaders who need connection, encouragement, and opportunities for greater impact.

The beachhead is established. In the last three years we have trained 3,000 leaders in the No Man Left Behind Model—a field-tested, proven model with case study churches to which we can point. We have strategic partnerships to expand this training with several denominations. http://www.disciplemen.com/ is bringing the best resources and leaders together online.

Leaders are being trained, men are being reached, marriages are being healed, families are being reconciled, and thousands of children are being rescued from the tragedy of divorce and abandonment.

The Initiative
We are convinced that many churches will simply not effectively implement the No Man Left Behind model unless they have someone on the ground that can help them actually do it. We believe that the next step for the men’s discipleship movement is to raise up an army of men passionate about helping church leaders reach and disciple men. These men will also provide a way for us to get our products and services into the hands of more pastors and leaders.

To accomplish this, we are developing The Man in the Mirror Network. The concept is to pilot test a field force of trained Consultants and Associates who are passionate about men’s discipleship and passionate about Man in the Mirror methods and resources. It’s likely that some of these men will be volunteers, some may earn some income from commissions on their work, and others may raise part or full-time support. One of the most common remarks from the 110 men who have already expressed interest in the Network is, “It’s about time. I’ve been waiting for this.” We have several models already in place, notably Montana Man in the Mirror.

If successful, we would expand the Network to support the organizational growth of this initiative. We believe this very well may be the missing link God will use to bring a national revival of churches and men.

We are now ready to deploy the various pilots. All the ingredients for a successful “field” sales force are in place: training, marketing materials, “how-to” manuals, ordering forms, compensation strategies and communications plans, to name a few. Updates on where we are, where we are going and current status is readily available to interested men at mimfieldnetwork.blogspot.com.

This is part of our shift from transactional interactions with leaders to connectional interactions. This new Man in the Mirror Network program, the Annual Summit, disciplemen.com and new MIM website (under development) are strategies that allow us to better connect with and serve leaders. We believe God will use an army of passionate leaders marching in the same direction to transform churches and men for His glory.

An "Event" vs. A "Process"

At Man in the Mirror, we don't help churches just put on some weekend event for their men. We're all about Creating, Capturing and Sustaining Momentum. That's why we talk about an 'event strategy' that:

engages leaders in a process for discipleship in the months before the event
helps make sure an event is well-prepared for, and well-followed up on
gives an event with a single unified theme and message
provides a follow-up strategy that gets guys connected in short term groups
has great results: 1/3 will commit or recommit their lives to Christ, and 70%+ will join the follow-up small groups at a typical event

We've helped churches and leaders conduct over 1,000 events for men in the last 10 years! We really do have a proven system for engaging men in ongoing discipleship.
